Napa Valley vintner, Randy Dunn, brings his artistry and expertise to Washington State to produce small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Columbia Valley's finest vineyards. His reputation for producing world-class Cabernet spans more than four decades. After making wines at Caymus from 1975-1985, Randy established Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain where he continues to craft distinctive wines of high acclaim.

An expressive wine of elegance offering layers of black cherry, dried currant and spice laced with nuances of licorice and dark chocolate for added complexity. Dark fruit and refined tannins provide wonderful texture and a lingering finish.

2007 FEATHER - 93 POINTS

"The 2007 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon (100%) is a multi-regional blend of Cabernet with the Dionysus and Weinbau Vineyards and the principal sources.  It was aged for 22 months in 90% new French oak.  Deep purple-colored, it exhibits a classy bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, earth notes, violets, and black currant.  Supple and layered on the palate, it displays enough underlying structure to evolve for 5-6 years.  With outstanding volume and grip, it will offer a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2027."

2007 FEATHER - 93 POINTS

"With vibrant black cherry/black currant fruit, this balanced effort shows a velvety character and a fine touch in the vineyard. Nuances of coffee, earth, leaf and dried herb are threaded through, in perfect harmony and balanced for the medium-term aging."

2007 FEATHER - 92+ POINTS

"Good dark red. Aromas of cassis, licorice and pepper, lifted by a floral topnote. Fat, ripe and silky, especially for a wine made under the direction of Randy Dunn, but showing little in the way of easy sweetness. Strong currant and black cherry fruit are given grip by substantial tannins, which arrive late. Ultimately powerful and backward but not hard. This includes a lot of Weinbau vineyard fruit, which supplies structure."

2007 FEATHER - 92 POINTS

"Firm, chewy and distinctive for its smoky and dried tomato accents around a core of blackberry, black cherry and bay leaf flavors, lingering expressively on the deftly balanced finish.  Best from 2012 through 2017."

Randy is a frequent visitor to the Columbia Valley, checking the vines at his favorite vineyards for balance throughout the growing season and returning during harvest to inspect the grapes before making the call to pick. Sagemoor Groups’ Dionysus (Tri-Cities) and Weinbau Vineyards (Wahluke Slope) were the dominant vineyard sources, contributing concentration and richness to the wine. Horse Heaven Hills vineyards, including The Benches at Wallula, gave the wine elegance, earthiness and dimension. Red Mountain fruit provided the structure and backbone.

Randy Dunn is one of the world’s most celebrated makers of extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons.

Dunn established his reputation at Caymus Winery from 1975 to 1985, where his Cabernet Sauvignons became the benchmark for the industry. In addition, his artistry shaped other premium wineries that now enjoy an acclaimed place in the sun (Pahlmeyer, Livingston, La Jota and others). Since 1979, Dunn has produced roughly 5,000 cases a year of his Dunn Vineyards Cabernets.

Randy is known not only for his famous wines, but for his philosophy on how to make wine. He does it his way - leaving the floor of the Napa Valley “to corn and melon farmers,” he tends his vines in the red stony soil of Howell Mountain. There are no road signs; no retail sales. And don’t look for him in a winery tour guide. No time for that, as Randy spends his quiet hours making his wonderful heirloom wines.

Randy lives with his wife, Lori, next to the winery on Howell Mountain.
