2006 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley vintner, Randy Dunn, has built a reputation over four decades for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignons. After making wines at Caymus from 1975-1985, Randy established Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain where he continues to craft distinctive wines of high acclaim. Now partnering with Allen Shoup, Randy brings his artistry and expertise to Washington State to produce small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Columbia Valley's finest vineyards.
Concentrated and beautifully balanced, Randy Dunn's 2006 Feather might best be described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove." This wine offers fresh, fragrant, fruity aromas; spicy, dark cherry on the palate and a silky mouth feel and lengthy finish.

2006 FEATHER - 93 POINTS
"The wine was sourced from several prime vineyards and aged for 22 months in new French oak. The nose gives up aromas of toasty oak, scorched earth, Asian spices, black currant, and blackberry. Firm and structured yet elegant on the palate, there are layers of fruit and enough tannin to evolve for another 4-6 years."

2006 FEATHER - 91+ POINTS
"Good deep ruby-red. Sexy if subdued aromas of cherry, currant, smoked meat and vanillin oak. Broad, full and quite dry, with a weightless quality to the blueberry and spicy oak flavors. Sound acids gives this wine excellent cut and perfumed back-end lift."

2006 FEATHER - 92 POINTS
"Smoky saddle leather, meaty, tobacco leaf, cigar, peppery, coriander, vanilla, licorice root, coffee, blackberry, cedar and cassis aromas, good complexity. Rich, ripe, dry, round, slightly tannic palate with good acidity. Cassis jam, chocolate, black olive, floral, vanilla flavors. "

The 2006 Feather includes grapes from acclaimed Horse Heaven Hills vineyards (32%), such as The Benches (formerly Wallula Vineyards), contributing dark fruit character and earthiness to the wine. Stillwater Creek on the Royal Slope of the Frenchman Hills (23%) brings fresh fruit aromas and balance. Grapes from the Wahluke Slope (19%) add beautiful structure and ripe tannins. With the primary blend complete, Randy relies on a wide assortment of diverse vineyards to add layers and complexity to the final blend.
Randy Dunn is one of the world’s most celebrated makers of extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignons.
Dunn established his reputation at Caymus Winery from 1975 to 1985, where his Cabernet Sauvignons became the benchmark for the industry. In addition, his artistry shaped other premium wineries that now enjoy an acclaimed place in the sun (Pahlmeyer, Livingston, La Jota and others). Since 1979, Dunn has produced roughly 5,000 cases a year of his Dunn Vineyards Cabernets.
Randy is known not only for his famous wines, but for his philosophy on how to make wine. He does it his way - leaving the floor of the Napa Valley “to corn and melon farmers,” he tends his vines in the red stony soil of Howell Mountain. There are no road signs; no retail sales. And don’t look for him in a winery tour guide. No time for that, as Randy spends his quiet hours making his wonderful heirloom wines.
Randy lives with his wife, Lori, next to the winery on Howell Mountain.
